A Few of My (Least) Favorite Things

I am not channeling Mary Poppins, but that song came to mind yesterday as I was pondering some of my least favorite things in the world.

The first thing that brought this subject to mind happened as I arrived home from work at 5:00.  I was walking up the driveway, enjoying the beautiful weather and thinking about the things I needed to do at home. I looked down as I went to step up on the porch and saw something moving................a SNAKE!!!  This is the #1 least favorite thing on my list. When God punished Eve for eating the forbidden fruit, he put enmity between the serpent (snake) and women...and somehow I got a double dose of that enmity! I hate mice and I really don't like spiders, but snakes are my #1 worst enemy.

I screamed and made a pretty impressive jump over the slithery little creature, making record time into the house. Mike was already home and came to the back door chuckling because he recognizes what he calls my "snake scream". It is apparently the one that sounds fearful and panicky.  He went out and shooed it into the backyard, so now I am paranoid about going into the backyard for fear he is still lurking somewhere. Hopefully he decided to find a new residence. In my mind that snake was the size of a python, but Mike claims it was just a baby garter snake!

After all the hubbub about the snake and supper was over, I went out to the camper to put the freshly washed sheets on the bed. Now I really don't mind making a bed usually, but the camper bed is another story entirely. It would be less work to wrestle a hippo than to wrestle sheets onto that bed! I finally won the tussle, but I was overheated and sweaty by the time I got done. Good thing that was the last job on my list because the day was over when I was done! But we now have clean sheets to sleep on when we take the camper next week.

Another thing I really hate is being hot when I sleep. But, it seems to be a rule that a person who likes to have things cooler always marries someone who is continually cold and wants things warmer. Mike would like to keep the house somewhere between 75 and 80 degrees.  I have suggested the he go and live with my mother! My ideal sleeping temperature would be about 65 degrees. So I worked out a little trick where I bumped the thermostat down to 70 as I head for bed, and I thought he was unaware of my ploy, but apparently not. I bumped it down to 70 as I headed for bed last night but he bumped it up to 72 as he came to bed later. So, I sweltered all night wondering why I was so hot at 70 degrees, not thinking to get up and check the thermostat. Rest assured, Mike McCoy, this war is not over!

So there you have it! All in one day I experienced three of the things I hate the worst. There are plenty of other things I don't like, but these are three of the worst. On a brighter note, today will have to be a better day since I know I won't have to make the bed in the camper again.  And hopefully the snake has found a new yard to live in. And I will just have to be the last one to bed tonight!
