I began this blog last summer but never really put it out there except to one friend for critique.  Then I lost interest, mostly because I was pretty much there by myself and no one was really reading it anyway.  But it's a new year with new goals, and this is one of mine.  So read away and feel free to comment.  I always love it when my daughter blogs, and while I may not be as witty and clever as she is, I hope I can at least bring a smile to your day or help you see just a bit of yourself in me.

 My topics will probably change from blog to blog, and some of them may not speak to you as well as others, but keep reading.  I'm sure we can find something in common.

Dress Stress

 As many of you know, we recently celebrated the marriage of our granddaughter to her beau of 4 years. It was a happy occasion and a beautiful day. All went according to plan...and we all know that a wedding takes a lot of planning. As the grandmother of the bride, the planning was pretty much out of my hands. I heard about some of the plans from the bride and mother of the bride, but all I really had to do was get myself there...and be dressed appropriately! And since my wardrobe consists almost exclusively of jeans, I felt the need to purchase something dressy for the occasion. I could have probably gotten by with a pantsuit, but since I'm not Hillary Clinton, a dress seemed more appropriate. This turned out to be a bigger undertaking than I had anticipated.  Number one problem...I hate to shop for clothes. The Ultimate Job...Parenting!

Recently I had two Facebook posts on my timeline that pointed my thoughts to my parenting skills. One of them was posted by my daughter, April, which said "Tag a mother and let her know that she's the best!!!" Another, which I can't find now that I am looking for it, said something about letting mothers everywhere know that they are doing a great job.  My child rearing years, 32 of them to be exact, are now a memory...a great memory in fact. In retrospect, we tend to remember the good stuff, the places we went, the quiet times at home, and the most precious memories of all, the times when I held them as babies. It takes a little more digging around in my memory banks to recall the tough times of parenting, the times we had to practice tough love, the spankings (I hear a gasp from modern parents), and all the blasted work that went with raising kids. Raising kids isn't easy, and I believe it's getting tougher every year! Kids have a way of worming themselve...

My Travel Bucket List

I've mentioned in previous blog posts that I love to travel, which is kind of an oxymoron since I'm also a homebody. Curiosity about this great land we live in trumps being a hermit most days. I see on Facebook that many of you are traveling to far away and exotic places. I have looked at pictures from Europe, Alaska and Hawaii, all popular vacation destinations. Alaska isn't totally out of the question as it can be accessed via motor vehicle. But Hawaii and Europe are separated from the continental United States by very large and very deep bodies of water. And, yes, I know you all made it safely there and back, and for that I am very thankful, but no thanks!  This continent we call home, more commonly known as North America, which is also connected to Central America and South America, will likely provide all the travel opportunities I can afford.
